Websites are typically the “hub” of any online business or online marketing plan. Therefore, it is the most vital part of your online presence. If you are a business owner, check the very bottom of your home page… right next to that little copyright. If your date is older than 2015, you probably need a new site! The average website life expectancy is just under 3 years for a healthy company with a strong online presence.

With the market growing more and more towards online, by the day, your website is quickly becoming your store-front. 8 out of 10 people are going to look up your website before they visit your location. The fact that “first impression” never goes away makes it very important for you to have an up to date, professional website.

Trends and fashion… What in the world does that have to do with your website? Well, website trends are just like clothing fashion trends, they are always changing. What was in style 5 years ago, typically is not going to be in today. Paying attention to your website and keeping up with it shows you are on your game and you take care of your business, which leads clients to believe that you are capable of taking care of their needs as well.

Not only do trends and fashion change but so does your company. Your website needs to evolve with your company. I have seen old websites with incorrect contact information, wrong addresses, personnel on the site that no longer work there, services that they no longer offer, etc. The last thing you want to do is confuse clients/possible clients. That is like sending an email to someone like this:

“Hello Client,

My name is John and I work for Nextfly Web Design. I would love to help you with your roofing needs, please get with us on information about your vehicle and I will get back with you.

Thank you,

Hahah! Ok, so that is a bit outlandish but you get the point.

Another reason for updating your site is due to search engines. If you are trying to be relevant in searches and show up for keywords and phrases, you have to play by search engines (like Google) rules. Their algorithms change from time to time and that dictates how you rank. This year, they are leaning very heavy on mobile design. Two years ago, that did not hurt your search rankings like it will by the end of the year.

Perhaps one of the most important reasons to invest in a new website design is for security. As websites age, they become more susceptible to viruses, hacking and other vulnerabilities. Depending on how your site was built, coding gets old and out of date which can lead to things breaking on your site. If you have your site redesigned every 3 – 4 years, this fixes everything and you get a fresh site.
