GTX 1080 and 1070.

A couple of weeks ago Nvidia announced the release of the graphics card the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070. The 1080 is nicknamed the Titan X killer (Nvidia’s flagship card at $1,128 USD). The 1070 is known as the Fury X killer (AMD’s Flash ship card.) The 1080 starts at $599 USD and the founders edition is $699 USD. The 1070 comes in at $380 USD and the founders edition is $450 USD. For everyone thinking what does founders edition mean, Nvidia decided to rename the reference card to founders and bumped up the price a $100 from the starting spot for partner cards.

GTX 1080 specs

The 1080 has 2560 CUDA cores, a base clock of 1607MHz and boost clock of 1733MHZ. 8GB of GDDR5X VRAM, Memory clock of 10 Gbps with a memory bus width of 256-bit. Has 320Gb/s memory bandwidth. The best part is the card has a TDP of 180W.

GTX 1070 specs

The GTX 1070 has a core clock of 1506MHZ with a boost clock of 1683MHZ. The 1070 also has the same amount of VRAM as the 1080 with 8GB of GDDR5 but its not GDDR5X. The memory clock is 8Gbps, memory bus width of 265-bit, and memory bandwidth at 256GB/s. The GTX 1070 also has a low TDP of 150W.

Nvidia’s Flash Ship Card the GTX Titan X specs

The Flash ship card Titan X has a base clock of 1000MHz with a boost clock of 1075MHz. The Titan has 12GB of GDDR5 to most of any gaming cards on both side AMD or Nvidia. This card has 3072 CUDA cores and a memory clock of 3505MHz. A total memory bandwidth of 336.5 GB/s and Memory bus of 384-bits. The Titan has a really high TDP of 250 Watts.

AMD’s Flash Ship Card the Fury X

The Fury X has a core clock of 1,050MHz, 4GB of HBM memory and a memory bus of 4,096. also 4096 Stream Processors. A 1000 MHz effective memory clock. A Max resolution of 4096 pixels by 2160 pixels. This is the first water cooled flagship card from either side.

This means we can play video games in 4k at 30fps for under a $1,000 and play 1440p at 60+ fps. This card has to power to push 7680 pixels  by 4320 pixels at 60Hz which in unheard of until now. This is the first graphic cards thats affordable and can run VR. What this means to me is I need to save up and get a GTX 1080 so I can play VR on my Oculus Rift and power three 1440p monitors. With the release of theses cards I want to upgrade my main rig to an Intel i7 6700k instead of my 8320 Processor from AMD. With a MSI krait motherboard, a GTX 1080 from Galax, and 32GB of DDR4 Ram from Kingston. I want to get the super ugly Noctua fans for my NZXT H440 because they have the best performance of any fans and they are whisper quiet. A 500GB Samsung EVO SSD for my operating system. Two 2TB HGST hard drives  for storage.

I also want to water cool a 1080 to put in to my hackintosh. A hackintosh is computer that is using Mac OS X on a computer that wasn’t built by Apple.
