Goal Setting 101

To accomplish your goals this year, first, you must know your goals. Goal setting is everywhere around us. Modern society is always encouraging us to think about what’s next and the next milestone. Yet, we don’t think enough about how we will get there. Are you willing to put in the work it takes to meet your goal? It is easy to sit around and think about your milestones and goals but most people don’t do anything to get there.

We set goals personally, professionally, physically. Questions to may ask yourself when setting your goals are:

  • What exactly do I want to achieve?
  • Where?
  • How?
  • When?
  • With whom?
  • What are the conditions and limitations?
  • Why exactly can I reach this goal?
  • What are alternative ways of achieving the same?

Personal Goals

Take time to think through what comes to your mind when you think of your personal goals. Assess where you are right now and tell yourself where you want to me in a month from now, then a year from now, then 2 years from now. Create a picture of your goal and how you will achieve it.

Professional Goals

Professional development is continuing to learn new skills at all stages of your career. Enrolling in courses and trainings are a valuable way to gain new skills and knowledge to develop your role. Write down the training and courses you do over time so you can look back at how much you’ve grown. You can even use your company CRM tool to keep track of you improvements to show your manager.

Physical Goals

Different fitness goals require different approaches. Start with smaller goals and build upon them as you become stronger. Is your goal attainable in your time period? Weigh effort, time, costs and other factors that could affect your goal.
